LAWYERS ON THE RUN

Who says that lawyers spend most of the time thinking about nothing but to earn money and becoming filthy rich? Who says that lawyers are mostly out-of-shape individuals with nothing to show except their big tummies and balding heads? Gone were those days that lawyers hate exercises and other physical activities. These days you will find out that most lawyers are now very much concerned about their health – no thanks to the never ending stress that comes with a lawyer’s work. Stress, pressure and anxiety come as part of a lawyer’s life. Instead of just drinking and eating to their tummy’s delight, most lawyers I come across with recently have incorporated exercise and other physical activities into their daily lives. Some lawyers go to the gym religiously. Others play golf, basketball, badminton, tennis and other sports activities.

Which brings me to the title of this piece – lawyers on the run. The “new” breed of lawyers have taken running as a sport and as an almost daily physical activity. There are now many lawyers who are avid runners, balancing training with their work and family lives. What is truly amazing is that there are now lawyers who do not only join fun runs [3k, 5k, 10k, 15k, 16k] but also half-marathons, full marathons and ultra-marathons. Performance-wise, gender has become a non-factor as there are lady lawyers who can run faster that their male counter-parts.

I’ve seen how these lawyers have truly enjoyed running not only as a sport but also as a passion. You see them on Sundays around the UP oval, in MOA, the Fort area and in other Metro areas suitable for running.

So, here is a partial list of Lawyers on the Run:

CEBU MARATHON 2011 RESULTS

After I reached the finish line, I was so glad that I was able to accomplish my 3rd full marathon with no injuries at all! After I received my medal, I then came to realize that this was actually my 3rd marathon in a span of less than 4 months [i.e., 105 days from September 26, 2010 where I did the CAMSUR marathon].

Joining this marathon was worth every centavo I spent. This was a very well-organized race that was worth the experience.

This race would definitely be there up the scale when it comes to rating purposes. To the organizers, MABUHAY KAYONG LAHAT!

Reasons why this race deserved a very high rating:

[a] very unique medal for the 42k finishers;
[b] nice route for all runners;
[c] plenty of water stations, with bananas, chocolates and biscuits;
[d] plenty of marshals who were located at strategic points of the race route;
[e] cheering groups along the 42k route;
[f] very friendly and accommodating staff;
[g] singing band located at the SRP going to Talisay City;
[h] group of young male dancers at the SRP;
[i] results came out within 24 hours.
